上司が部下を褒める表​現

本日はグローバルチームにおいて上司（経営者）が部下（従業員）の仕事の業績を褒める場合についての表現をご紹介したいと思います。

日本でも褒めることは大変重要視されていますが、それは米国でも同じでした。

なぜなら、

私はリサーチをしていて以下の表現はなかなかいいんじゃないかなと思いました。

【コメント】

米国の場合、上司が部下の仕事に対しての褒め方のコツは親近感がもてるように、なおかつプロフェッショナルさも保ちながら、心から相手がしてくれていることに対して具体的に褒める、ということのように感じました。

それは外資系企業では避けられない英文emailをもう勘弁してくださいというほど読ませていただいてもそうだったと思います。

数あるcomplimentやpraiseの中でもやはり差をつけるのはその言葉がどれだけgenuineなのかというところにかかっているのではと個人的には思います。

実際米国人の上司と仕事をしていて、褒められたことで非常に嬉しかったエピソードをご紹介します。

私の上司は超多忙で出張で年中海外を飛び回っていたのと性格的にはどちらかというとquiet and reservedな人だったので面と向かって褒められたという記憶がありませんでした。

ところがある日、そんな上司が出張先で私のことをうれしそうに褒めていたと、電話でオーストラリア人の同僚から聞いたときはびっくりしました。

「え、で、どこをそんなに褒めてくれていたの？」とその同僚に聞いたら、
"He told me you speak of your mind and he really likes that.
 He is very happy working with you; he told me so."

と聞いたときは心から感激しました。

これはemailによる形式的な褒め言葉をいただくより、ずっとインパクトがありました。

ちなみに、speak one's mind =本音を語る、率直に述べるということです。(日本だったら即クビだったかもしれませんね。：）

これはもう一生忘れられないです。

そのことがあってからは、その上司のためにますます頑張って働いたことは言うまでもありません。
